Anti-Muivah visit: Rally, sit-in protest continue

Imphal, May 13 2010: Rallies and protest demonstrations continued to be staged at different places over the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to Manipur.

At Sekmai Bazar, members of Kanglatongbi Board Meira Paibi, Sapermeina Meira Paibi and tribal women of Sapermeina jointly staged a protest demonstration against the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to Manipur.

Organised under the aegis of Advanced Women Society, Sekmai, the protest demonstration was attended by around 1000 women.

After the protest demonstration, the womenfolk also took out a rally in Sekmai area shouting slogans like 'We oppose proposed visit of Muivah to Manipur' and 'No one should challenge the unity and integrity of Manipur'.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the rally, secretary of Advanced Women Society, Kh Amubi observed that no force would be able to break apart Manipur as long as the people live together in peace and harmony.

At the community hall of Thoubal Leishangthem, a large number of local residents staged a sit-in-protest demonstration with placards and festoons inscribed with slogans like 'Muivah should not be allowed to step on the soil of Manipur', 'The stand of the State Government is right', 'Long live Manipur', etc.

The protest demonstration which began at around 10 am continued till 5 pm.

In the evening, a protest torch rally was also taken out in and around Thoubal Leishangthem area.

Similar protest demonstrations were also witnessed at Khangabok, Pishum, Wangkhei, Bamon Leikai, etc where the protestors, mostly womenfolk spoke out decrying the decision of the Government of India to allow Muivah to enter Manipur as invitation of another June 18 incident.
