Report on Charenamei's campaign speech submitted

Imphal, April 15 2009: Detailed reports related with a case taken up by the state chief electoral officer against Mani Charenamei for alleged making speech amounting to cause communal hatred during his election campaign has been submitted to the concern.

The report was submitted by the district electoral officer of Churachandpur district who is also the district returning officer and election observer of the district to the CEO, an official source said today.

The report submitted by the RO and observer included the video clipping of the Mani Charenamei's address to the gathering during his election held at Sainot hall in Churachandpur district headquarter on April 8 last.

The state election authority, mention may be made here, has registered a suo motu case Charenamei with regard to his address at the rally which reportedly said that no provision of not allowing changing the territorial boundary of a state included in the Indian constituency and there is nothing harm in breaking of the territorial boundary of the state.

In the case which was taken up based on the media reports on the next day of the election rally, the candidate has been charged of speaking hate speech which amount to erupt communal clash in the state.

The stat CEO directed the RO and election observer of the district to make an enquiry into his speech of the day and to submit the detail report to the CEO office with video clipping on or before April 13 .

Source also said the reports of the finding into the enquiry will be submitted to the Election Commission of India for further necessary action.

With the case of the alleged hate speech of the Charenamei, the state CEO so far taken up to cases.

The other one related with the complaint lodged by the CPI, Manipur State Council against MPP candidate Th Chaoba and its senior leader O Joy for allegly making personal remark against its candidate, Dr M Nara in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat.

On the other hand, the state CEO has also initiated the state Chief Engineer to take up action against an EE and SO of the PWD, Tamenglong district for their alleged failure to turn up for election duty even as they are assigned for the same.

Following the received of the intimation, Chief Engineer PWD has also started making enquiry into the matter the source said adding that they are likely to place under suspension from their service after a departmental enquiry.
