Imphal, May 08 2010: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has strongly condemned the Mao incident of May 6 in which two students were killed and more than 70 civilians injured.

Denouncing the decision of the State Government to send more reinforcement at Mao Gate, the ZYF, in a press release, urged the State Government to bring a peaceful solution instead of using military power.

It alleged that the intention of the Government was to suppress the struggle for rights and justice of the Nagas through bullets and guns.

It further warned that any serious and unwanted eventuality that occur in future will be the sole responsibility of the Manipur Government.

On the other hand, the ZYF has appreciated the bold decision of the seven Naga MLAs to resign on moral ground against the alleged administrative failure of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.

The Government should provide security to Naga people residing in different areas of Imphal valley for their safety, it demanded.

It further demanded the State Government to immediately extend all possible help to the next of kin of the deceased and also to those injured to meet their medical expenses.

The ZYF also extended solidarity and condolence to the bereaved families of the deceased and prayed for quick recovery of all those injured.
