Erabot set for yatra to Jiri

Imphal, May 25 2010: To inspect the existing condition of National Highway 53, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Y Erabot is set to trek across the highway along with the people all the way upto to Silchar and interact with the public settling on either sides of the NH-53 to discuss development of the road.

Welcoming the initiative of a peace march proposed by the United Club National Highway-53, the Minister has also given his word to join and lead the peace march.

A joint body of all the clubs located in between Wahengbam Leikai to Jiribam, United Club NH-53 hosted a reception function today in honour of the Minister for his recent feat of bringing back a large number of stranded trucks from Jiribam.

Consequently, it has been decided that before setting out for the peace march, all the required medical and logistic supports would be arranged.

Talking to mediapersons after the reception, Minister Erabot informed that over and above 492.54 quintal of rice airlifted, 10,491.22 quintal have been brought in by the stranded trucks from Jiribam and the total quantity of petroleum products brought in include 500 KL of petrol, 600 KL of Kerosene, 1560 KL of diesel, 181 KL of ATF and 286 MT of LPG.

Expressing concern that the patience of the public might run out and the oil pumps could be attacked if diesel and petrol are not made available, the Minister assured that distribution of fuel and filled LPG cylinders through their respective agencies will begin from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a large number of school van drivers tried to charge towards the CM's bungalow demanding fuel.

They were, however, stopped by the police at Sanjenthong.
