Women folk rally for peace in State

Imphal, May 18, 2010: Women folk from various communities staged a peace rally under the aegis of All Manipur Nupi marup today in Imphal areas culminating with a public meeting at Uripok Lai Khurembi Lampak.

The meeting resolved to appeal to both the economic blockade sponsors and Government of Manipur to iron out their differences in order to facilitate movement of vehicular traffic along NH-39 and 53 so that food shortage crisis made be redressed at the earliest.

It also called upon all concerned to refrain from imposing counter-economic and to work for promotion of peace and communal harmony in the state.

The rally that commenced from Uripok Lai Khurembi crossed Khwairamband Keithel and returned to the starting point via the Social Welfare Department road, was participated by residents/representatives of Chingmeirong, Pandon, Langthabal Kabui khul, Chingmeirong Rongmei Khun, Namdulong, Ramji Kabui Khun, Patsoi, Sawombung, Leimakhong, Kshetrigao, Major Khul etc.

While speaking at the meeting, one anna Paomei of Namdulong said purpose for participating in the rally is to sustain effort and spread message of unity and harmony.

'We women should not spread rumours that can cause tension and strain cordial co-existence of various communities,' she exhorted.

Vice president of All Manipur Nupi Marup namely Shakhi strongly stressed on the need for maintaining peace in the State and ensure that no group or individual with factious agenda succeed in executing their sinister plan.

She also decried blockade of all form and called upon the people to exercise restrain so that cordial atmosphere could be sustained.

The women activist further observed that premature decision of the Central Government to extent ceasefire is the mother of all ills afflicting the Manipuri society.

The rallyists also held placards and shouted slogans against NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to enter Manipur.
