Rickshaw drivers rally, ask Muivah to go back

Imphal, May 29 2010: Rickshaw drivers took out a protest rally against the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to Manipur here today.

Organised under the aegis of All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers & Pullers Association (AMRDPA), the protest rally was flagged off by MLA Nandakumar from THAU ground at Thangmeiband.

The rally passed through Khuyathong, Lamphel, Langol View, Uripok, Tera Sayang, Khagempalli, Singjamei, Kongba and concluded at Hapta Kangjeibung.

Apart from shouting slogans like 'Long live Manipur' and ' We oppose proposed visit of Muivah to Manipur', the rickshaw drivers also used placards inscribed with wordings like 'Don't divide hill & valley', 'Go back Muivah', We want peace not war', 'Muivah is a war monger', etc.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the rally, AMRDPA president L Subhash Sharma said, ''we strongly objected to the proposed visit of Muivah to Manipur and if he try to force his entry, then we will fight back''.

Appealing for lifting of the total economic blockade being imposed along the National Highways in the interest of the people, he also said that the rickshaw drivers in Manipur are at the back and call of any organisation in the effort towards bringing about peace and normalcy in the State.

On the other hand, objecting to the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to Manipur, members of Singjamei Nupi Lup took out a protest march here today.

Participated by around 200 womenfolk, the protest march began from Chingamakhong and proceeded upto Moirangkhom.

Afterward, a delegation of Singjamei Nupi Lup submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

Meanwhile, sit-in-protest demonstration demanding lifting of the economic blockade and objecting to the proposed visit of Muivah to Manipur continues.

At Kwakeithel, Meira Paibis of the area joined hand with the Leimakhujam Youth Development Association in staging a sit-inprotest demonstration.

A similar protest demonstration was also staged by the students of John English School at Keishamthong today.

As part of the public movement being launched by UCM to oppose the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to Manipur, a sit-in-protest session cum public meeting was held at the community hall of Eastern Youth Development Association at Top Khongnang Makhong today.
