Imphal, July 05 2010: A BJP Parliamentary team led by Opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj will be arriving at Imphal on July 8 to take stock of the humanitarian crisis being encountered in Manipur due to scarcity of essential commodities and sky-high prices.

The BJP team will also include deputy leader in Rajya Sabha SS Aluhwalia, vice-president Bijoya Chakravarty and BJP North East in-charge Chandrasekhar Rao.

The BJP parliamentary team led by Sushma Swaraj will address a BJP workers' meet scheduled to be held at GM Hall at 3 pm of July 8 .

After this, the team will discuss the present crisis of scarcity of goods and escalating prices of essential commodities with civil society representatives, escalating prices of essential commodities with civil society representatives, NGOs, public leaders and local party leaders at BJP State unit president.

The team would leave for Delhi at 8 am of July 9 after briefing media persons at Imphal.

Speaking about the scheduled visit of the parliamentary team, BJP State unit president Sh Shantikumar said that the BJP team led by Sushma Swaraj would be coming to Manipur to collect first hand account of the hardships being faced by the people of Manipur during and after the blockade.

The party has also appealed to the State Government to take up due security measures in view of the scheduled visit of the BJP leaders.

Both the State and Central Governments led by Congress have been paying little attention to the pressing problems being faced by the people of Manipur such as obstructions on highways, escalating prices of essential commodities, scarcity of goods.

In view of such attitude of the Government, BJP state unit would urge upon the parliamentary team to take up these issues of Manipur in Parliament sessions, said Shantikumar.
