Imphal, December 29: Ruling out the possibility of repealing Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 from Manipur in the prevailing law and order situation, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has categorically stated it would be difficult to do so due to the volatile law and order condition with killing, kidnapping and extortion becoming the order of the day.

Addressing the one-day block level Congress workers' conference organised by Konthoujam Block Congress Committee at Konthoujam Kangjeibung today, the Chief Minister who is also in charge of the Home portfolio said removal of the Act is not simply possible in view of the grim law and order situation in Manipur.

Ridiculing the claim of the MPP that it will repeal the Act from Manipur if it is voted to power, Ibobi said no one can say whether MPP will achieve it or not but the truth is that the Act could not be removed while the present MPP president Dr L Chandramani was the Deputy Chief Minister of the State.

It is the Congress led SPF Government which has already taken up the initiative and lifted the Act from the Imphal Municipal area at least, he added.

Cautioning the people against those politicians who are in the habit of changing their party affiliations when election approaches, Ibobi said MPP has become a safe haven for power hungry leaders from various political parties.

These party hoppers have been spewing communal venoms , he charged.

Expressing gratitude to the people for their support and co-operation to the Congress led SPF Government which is all set to complete its full term, the Chief Minister further appealed to the people for their continued support so that the SPF Government can remain in power and complete all the developmental projects that have started apart from bringing all round development in the State.

MPCC president Gaikhangam who also spoke at the occasion, said MPP is a party without a vision of its own and it has been working in the interest of some leaders who are pursuing their own vested interests.

It was also at the time of these political leaders that the financial position of Manipur was at its lowest ebb, he charged.

MLA of Konthoujam Assembly Constituency Dr S Budhachandra extended his vote of thank to all the people who were present during the day-long conference.
