Imphal, June 27: The state Cabinet has convened a meeting on June 29 prior to the July 4 Monsoon session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Sources said the Cabinet is meeting to approve important agenda that have been proposed for the Assembly session.

These include the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India relating to the accounts of the state government during the financial year 1999-2000, and 2000-2001, a White Paper on the state finance position, amendment of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 and the proposed electricity tariff 2002 which is calculated on the basis of the financial year 2000-2001 among others, the source said.

The Cabinet will also be discussing the needs, if any, of amendments of existing Acts, it further added.

Another crucial issue that will come up before the Cabinet during the sitting will be the proposed lifting of prohibition, first from five hill districts and then from the valley districts.

If prohibition is to be lifted, it will require the amendment of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991, and this too will come up for discussions.

The White Paper on the Manipur finances will among others highlight the states financial relationship with the Union government in terms of the sizes of the plan and non-plan budgets, the source said.
