MPP cast slur on Loken, Doungel

Imphal, April 27: Nambol Kendra Committee of Manipur Peoples Party and Federal Party of Manipur appealed to the Election Commission of India and State authorities for repoll at three polling stations of Leimapokpam area and punitive action against Presiding Officers negligence of duty.

A press release of the MPP Committee charged that Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister N Loken along with his accomplices not only abused, thrashed and threatened electorates but also indulged in mass proxy voting at polling stations 24/11, 24/12 and 24/13.Demanding repoll at these statiqns at the earliest the Committee condemning the conduct of the Minister also accused presiding officers deputed at the polling centres by letting the miscreants disrupt the poll process while turning down repeated pleas of the electorates to prevent the malpractices.

The Minister even contacted the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who arrived at the scene with heavy security personnel and at the former's instigation raided the house of one Maibam Bijoy Meitei on concocted, charges of Bijoy sheltering underground members at his house.

During the raid Bijoy's aged and vision impaired mother was abused, sister in law and her daughter beaten up, alleged the Committee.

Later, Minister Loken and his armed accomplices posing as commando personnel also went on a rampage damaging a Maruti Gypsy (MN1A/1247) with the occupants, except the driver, escaping with minor injuries due to intervention by local women folks, maintained the Committee.

However, the driver Asem Hemanta has been admitted to RIMS Hospital and is in a serious condition, informed the MPP unit.

When the matter was highlighted to the election authorities including the Returning Officer the responses were negative, said the Committee and stated that the ECI would be intimated to order for repoll.

Meanwhile, alleging undue advantage of official position, violation of norms and use of threat and intimidation to voters in favour of his relative candidate contesting for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency Youth Front of the Manipur Peoples Party has complained to the Election Commission of India for appropriate action against 3rd Bn IRB Commandant Christopher Doungel (IPS).

In a press release the Youth Front charged the police officer of coercing voters of polling stations of 57/41, 57/44, 57/46 and 53/03 to cast their votes in favour of NCP candidate Holkhomang Haokip during the April 23 repoll at these centres.
