Imphal, May 24: Four suspected underground activists have been killed by Imphal West Police Commandos at different parts of the State today.

In the first incident, three UG suspects were gunned down at New Keithelmanbi area at around 12.30 pm today.

According to police report, following a special tip off that some armed underground activists are extorting money from the people in New Keithelmanbi area, a team of Imphal West Police Commandos rushed in and found four-five suspected UGs in a house.

On seeing the Commandos, the UG suspects tried to flee compelling the Commandos to open fire.

One of the UG suspects was killed on the spot while three others escaped with the Commandos in hot pursuit.

After the chase, two other UG suspects were also found shot dead some 300 metres away.

Two other UG suspects, however, managed to escape, the police report said, adding that one of the escaped UG suspects carried an AK rifle.

The bodies of the three slain UG suspects have been picked up and deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital for identification.

Police claimed to have recovered three hand grenades from the possession of three slain UG suspects.

In the second incident, another team of Imphal West Police Commandos shot dead another suspected underground activist during an encounter which took place at Thangmeiband Tarung Village at around 6.30 pm today.

The Commandos recovered two hand grenades from the possession of the slain UG suspect whose body has been deposited at the mortuary of RIMS for identification.

Meanwhile, stepping up counter insurgency measures, a combined force of Imphal East District Police Commandos and personnel of 32 Assam Rifles arrested one KCP activist and two PREPAK activists from different places today.

According to a statement issued by SP of Imphal East District Th Radheshyam, the KCP activist identified as Nongmaithem Dinesh alias Ibungo Singh (35) s/o Dhiren of Singjamei Thongam Leikai was arrested from his own house at around 6.30 am today.

The SP informed that Dinesh joined KCP in 2004 through one Open of Ningomthongjao and now working under the commando of a S/S project officer identified as Santosh of Ningomthongjao.

The SP further informed that the combined force also arrested one PREPAK activist identified as Chirom Saratbabu s/o Bokul of Thongju Part-II at around 8.30 am today.

At the instance of Saratbabu who joined PREPAK in 2007 through one S/S Second Lieutenant Khuman, another PREPAK activist identified as Asem Sunil (40) s/o late Bira of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai was also later on arrested by the combined force, the SP added.

Imphal West commandos also arrested a female PREPAK activist from near GP Women College at around 11.30 am today.

Identifying the arrestee as Thoudam Ongbi Mata Devi (24) w/o Th Sunil Singh of Top Khongnangkhong, SP (Imphal West District) L Kailun said that she was assigned to extort and demand money for party fund of PREPAK.
