Mera Houchongba celebrated at Yaingangpokpi

Imphal, October 18: The historic Mera Houchongba celebration organized by All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural organization was held today at Yaingangpokpi bazar, Imphal East.

The theme of the celebration is emotional harmony and to strengthen peace, co-existence among all communities in Manipur.

Bijoy Koijam, Minister for Family Welfare, Anek Vaiphei, President, AMESCO, Wungnaoshang Keishing, Minister, Fishery and Government Press and N Biren, MLA graced the occasion as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Bijoy Koijam said Manipur should be considered as a mini India because it is inhabited by people following different faiths.

The celebration will usher in peace in state, he said.

He also said the people in the plain areas should understand the problem facing the highlanders and in doing so the bond of love will be strengthen.

He said socio-economic revolution is the need of the hour.

The government down sizing policy should cover IAS and IPS officers also, he added.

In his presidential speech N Biren, MLA said no power on earth can break the territorial integrity of Manipur provided all people stand together.

Wungnaoshang Keishing said the people in the plain and.

hills are brothers.

Mera Houchongba marks the symbolic unison of the two brothers.

The major community in the plain areas should not challenge the culture of the minority communities of the hill areas.

The highlights of the function were exchange of gifts among the different communities.

Bijoy Koijam donated a sum of Rs 7000/- to the organizer while N Biren and Wungnaoshang Keishing donated Rs 5000/- each.

A video film "Our Village Sandang Sengba Maring" was also released by the chief guest.
