Poll preparations gain momentum in hills

Imphal, February 18: Polling officials detailed for duty at Chandel AC have left for their respective polling stations today from Chandel district headquarters.

Security has also been tightened in view of the polls.

DIG V Zathang is overseeing the security measures.

Chandel DC Y Thamkishore informed the press that thirteen polling parties have left today for election duty.

The remaining poll officials will be sent tomorrow and the next day.

He further informed that 12 polling stations have been identified for which helicopters will be pressed into service to transport poll officials and materials.

Around 500 polling officials will be put into duty in the two Assembly constituencies of Chandel district.

On the other hand sixteen polling parties have also left Tamenglong district headquarters for election duty in the remoter areas of the district.

Tamenglong DC Moses Chalai said choppers will be used for 51 polling stations in the district.

He added that 530 polling personnel will be pressed into service in three Assembly constituencies of Tamenglong.
