CS' directives for relief measures

Imphal, August 17: Following the grave flood situation in the four valley districts, particularly in Thoubal district, Chief Secretary AP Sharma has instructed all the Government employees and Departments to attend to their duties diligently.

In an office memorandum issued on August 16, the Chief Secretary said that the Commissioner (Relief) is the Nodal Officer and at the district level, the Deputy Commissioners are responsible for timely provision of relief to the affected persons.

The Government Departments like the IFC, FCS, Health and Family Welfare, PHED, Vety and Animal Husbandry, PWD etc are required to depute special teams to the affected areas.

These Departments should co-ordinate with the Commissioner (Relief) at the State level and with the respective Deputy Commissioners at the district level.

The Chief Secretary has also instructed the PWD to see that roads and bridges which were washed away by the floods should be restored immediately for maintaining movement of relief materials.

All the Heads of Departments and the Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to ensure that the employees attend office regularly and discharge their duties diligently.

Special teams should be constituted for the visiting the field areas for assessing the damage and providing timely relief.

The Chief Secretary has also directed the Heads of Department concerned and the DCs to set up control rooms with telephone connections and deploy staff who will be available round the clock for attending to any emergency.

No leave shall be sanctioned to any Government employees during this period, the Chief Secretary stipulated and added that any failure to comply with the instructions will seriously viewed and immediate disciplinary action will be initiated against the defaulting employees.

PHED cell: In order to meet the problem of drinking water in the flood affected areas of Imphal East and West and Thoubal district a counter has been opened at the office of the Chief Engineer, PHED ( telephone number 220119).All concerned have been asked to contact the said counter for solving any drinking water problem.

The PHED is also distributing chemicals like alum, lime, bleaching powder etc where ever found necessary through the Divisional offices concerned.

Mineral water for flood relief: Consequent upon the appeals of the president of the Imphal Bazar Communities Board, Amrik Singh Pahwa, the proprietor of 'Loktak' mineral water, GC Sharma has agreed to issue a litre of the mineral water at Rs 2 to help the flood victims.

The mineral water will be issued from its factory, M/S Manipur Plastic Industries located at Takyel.
