Landslides at NH-53 hamper detailment of poll personnel

Imphal, April 17: Following heavy landslide at various places on the National Highway-53, polling personnel entrusted with poll duties at Bangai range under Churachandpur district and Tamenglong have all returned back to the capital today, disclosed an official source.

Sources also informed it would be very difficult for the authorities to detail the poll personnel to their respective polling stations immediately but however hastened to add that all efforts are on to send the stranded polling personnel to their respective polling stations with the help of PWD authorities.

Answering to a query, the official source said that helicopters would not be inducted for the time being due to bad weather conditions.

Informing that poll personnel for Senapati district would be sent tomorrow, sources said the personnel and security for seven polling stations under Ukhrul district, 34 in Churachandpur and 14 polling stations under Chandel district have already been sent so far.

It may be noted here that all the poll and security personnel are supposed to reach their respective destinations before April 19.Mean while DGP AK Parashar while talking to this reporter today informed that additional central security forces have started arriving in the State for the upcoming polls and added that efforts are still on to acquire more additional forces for ensuring a peaceful, free and fair elections.

Answering to a query, the DGP said that it would be improper to mention the exact number and details of the security forces provided by the Centre for the polls and added that the threat of the UGs would dealt befittingly after holding minute discussion on the prevailing law and order conditions in the State.
