Remand for 11 suspects, mob dispersed

Imphal, November 14: Eleven persons, including a woman, suspected to be involved in the kidnapping and killing of Lungnila Elizabeth were arrested yesterday evening from various locations of the State.

Personnel of Lamphel police station who reportedly picked up the suspects under the supervision of Additional SP (Prosecution) N Bijoy Singh produced them before the court of CJM, Imphal today.

The Court granted remand of 10 days police custody of all the suspects for further interrogation to extract details on circumstances leading to the death of the class III student of Little Flower School who was kidnapped on November 4 from near the school campus.

The body of GAD and Taxation Minister Francis Ngajokpa's daughter was recovered from Sadokpam Leikai under Patsoi Assembly constituency inside a sack on November 12.Cases under Section 364-A/368/400/302 of Indian penal Court concerning formation of gang, kidnapping, hiding and killing were registered against all the suspects.

The cases were taken up based on FIR No 181 (11) 03 registered at the Lamphel police station.

CJM, Imphal M Padmeshwor after perusing through the details submitted by the Addl SP ordered 10 days remand against the appeal for 15 days.

Accordingly the arrested persons would remain in police custody till 1 pm of November 24 during which interrogation to ascertain nature of involvement of the suspects in the gruesome murder would be conducted.

Among the arrested are 57 year old man and his two sons hailing from Moirang hanuba Leirak.

The present address of the elderly man identified as Pukhrambam Kamdebo s/o (L) Kamini Singh is listed in the police report as Tera Sadokpam Leikai while his two sons Gandhi alias Romesh Singh (25) and Rajesh Singh (24) are from Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak.

Identity of the arrested women suspect has been established as Sophiya Dangmei (24) w/o Dangmei Robert of Quarter No 1, Canteen Colony (Officer's Colony), Loktak Project while another suspect identified as Dangmei Gaipoklung Kabui (45) s/o (L) D Mayabi of Kokodan village under Loktak police station also has the same present address as Sophiya's.Koko Chongdur Robby Chiru (53) s/o Thoineireng Chiru of Charoi Khullen, Loktak Project has also been picked up by the State police personnel.

He reportedly stayed at a rented house at Nagamapal.

Other suspects rounded up include Thalun Yamkhojang Thadou (42) s/o T Leokhojam of Maokot village Ukhrul district with present address put as Langol Housing Complex Type III E-29; Khuraijam Ibomcha Meitei alias Oncha alias Ibungomacha (36) s/o (L) Girani Singh of Moirang Hanuba Leirak with present address as Tera Sadokpam Leikai; Gurumayum Lakshmikanta Sharma alias Lakhikanta (27) s/o (L) G Haridev of Tera Khamnam Leirak; Sorokhaibam Surjit alias Sobha (33) s/o (L) Pakchao Singh of Heikrujam Mamang Leikai; and Yumnam Opendro (33) s/o Rasho Singh of Mayang Imphal Thana Ani Longbi.

In a late evening development, irate residents of Nagamapal Laimayum Leirak tried to storm the rented quarter of suspect Koko Chungdur Robby Chiru but timely arrival of police force prevented further outbreak of violence.

Upon hearing that Koko was among the eleven suspects rounded up in connection with the school girl's murder the mob including members of local clubs and meira paibis converged at the entrance of the building owned by former Minister Elangbam Kunjakishor.

According to witnesses, heated exchange of words ensued between the agitated meira paibis and daughter of Koko who was at the house with her grandmother.

The house owner rushed to the site and was asked by the local people to throw out the family members of the suspect, which was agreed.

Soon a police team arrived at the scene and tried to whisk away the two from the tension filled area.

Even as the police team escorted the two, angry women-folks waylaid them demanding an apology from Koko's daughter for her conduct resulting in a mild scuffle before the security men managed to drive out safely.

After the police left the mob dismantled a sign-board put up at the entrance besides pulling down a wooden door.
