ANSAM speaks out mind on Jun 18

Imphal, June 14: Without mincing words, the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur has today stated that the decision of the State Government to declare June 18 as Manipur Integrity Day is at the expense of the interest of the Naga people.

In a statement, the student body said that it respects the sentiments of any individual or organisation in observing the day under any nomenclature but added, �the Association in particular and the Naga people in general are not a party to it�.

As a Government, the principle function of a State is to maintain peace and order and to safeguard the interest of all the communities.

However the decision of the State Government to observe June 18 as Manipur Integrity Day is against the interest of the Nagas, asserted ANSAM.

The State Government has totally failed in safeguarding the interest of the Naga people, charged the student body.

ANSAM further said that it will extend all support to the public rally called by the UNC on June 16 under the theme, �Solidarity rally-towards Naga Unification�.

Assam Regiment: The Raising Day of the Assam Regiment will be held tomorrow.

Informing this PIB Defence Wing in a statement today said that Assam Regiment was raised on June 15, 1941 at Elephant Falls, Shillong by Lt Col Ross Howman.

Soon after its raising the Regiment earned its baptism by fire in the battle fields of Burma during WW II and during the short period, it earned six battle honours and the Theatre of Honour of Burma, added PIB.

Today the Regiment has 13 Infantry Bns, three Rashtriya Rifles Units and an Infantry Bn of the Territorial Army.
