Imphal, March 13: With the merging of the PA Sangma faction of the NCP with the Trinamool Congress and subsequent formation of a new party called the Nationalist Trinamool Congress, a unit of the newly floated party has also been set up in the State.

It may be noted here that NCP PA Sangam faction had been trying to form a new party called the People's Nationalist Party (PNP) by registering to the Election Commission immediately after the vertical split of the NCP.

Talking to The Sangai Express today, S Tiken president of the State unit NCP announced that the State NCP unit under his leadership has too accepted the merger with the Trinamool Congress at the Centre and thereby declared the emergence of the newly formed Trinamool Nationalist Congress in the State.

Elaborating on the reason behind the merger of NCP Sangma faction with the Trinamool Congress, Tiken stated that the decision to merge with the Trinamool Congress was taken after the Election Commission intimated the party leaders that the symbol of the People Nationalist Party would not be given before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

PA Sangma had also informed the state unit of the Nationalist Trinamool Congress that the two parties would be jointly contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha election under the newly formed Nationalist Trinamool Congress, added Tiken.

Disclosing that a meeting of the NDA partners of the North East would be held at Guwahati on March 15, Tiken said that all efforts would be made during the meeting to arrive at a definite decision with regard to the nomination of the State's Nationalist Trinamool Congress' candidates for the upcoming polls.
