Imphal, October 11: In continuing protest against the intrusion of NSCN (IM) cadres into Manipur and the subsequent release of 13 armed NSCN (I-M) leaders by the State Government under pressure from the Centre, effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Union Home Minister LK Advani have been reportedly set on fire at different parts of the State today.

Responding to the call of United Committee Manipur, volunteers of different organisations brought the effigies of Ibobi, Vajpayee and Advani and consigned them to flame at Keishampat Junction at about 4.30 pm today.

They also shouted slogans to uphold the territorial integrity of Manipur and against the proposed meeting of the NSCN (I-M) at Senapati, reports said.

Effigies of the Chief Minister, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers were also burnt at Shamu Makhong at Kwairamband bazar along with slogan shouting later in the evening.

However, with the timely arrival of the policemen, the protestors were dispersed and the flaming effigies put off.

Not long after that, a false alarm was set off at Nagamapal road near the bazar area following rumor of a bomb having been planted near Maharani Thong.

But things returned to normalcy when the matter was confirmed.

Meanwhile, reports received from Churachandpur said that the volunteers of Meetei Youth Organization (MYO), Churachandpur along with others burnt effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Union Home Minister L K Advani at different parts of Churachandpur district today.
