Cops nab two Senapati suspects

Imphal, April 09: Even though three prime suspects in the kidnapping for ransom and subsequent murder of two Senapati kids are in the custody of the NSCN (IM), which is reportedly probing into the incident, the police has claimed that it has arrested two more suspects in the case.

Superintendent of Police of Senapati District Nishit Kumar Ujwal informed that the two suspects, both Nepalis, were arrested from a place in Senapati a few days back and interrogation of the arrested persons is underway.

One of the arrested suspects is running a PCO while the other is a shopkeeper, the SP disclosed.

On being asked, the SP reiterated that the police cannot make much headway in its probe into the incident as the three prime suspects namely Manikho, Brown Tangkhul and Adai are still in the custody of the NSCN (IM).

Meanwhile, a meeting held at Senapati today has unanimously resolved to rename the Core Committee as the Fact Finding Committee on the kidnapping and murder of the two school kids.

The meeting attended by leaders of the Committee and NPO has also decided to confer legal rights to the Committee to investigate into the incident independently and recommend punishment to anybody found guilty in the heinous crime according to Naga customary laws.

'We will conduct our own probe into the incident and at the same time we will also pass our own verdict against anybody found guilty in the crime by applying our common customary laws', informed Chairman of the Committee Solomon Veino when contacted by The Sangai Express.

The Fact Finding Committee will work independently as an autonomous body without any interference from both the State Government and GPRN, NSCN (I-M) as well, Solomon said while pointing out that he is the chairman of the re-christened Committee.

On being asked about the State Government's failure to book the culprits within the 10-day deadline set by it which expired today, Solomon said 'we will wait fort an explicit response from the State Government till midnight '.

'If no response comes from the side of the Government then we would announce our stir plans against the Government from tomorrow', Solomon warned.

The agitations may be bandh, blockade and economic blockade, he said, adding that the mode of the stir to be launched would be decided by the public.

Senapati has been on the boil after the skeleton remains of the two tiny tots were found at an isolated place of the town on March 27.On March 29, the irate public torched the houses of two prime suspects, Manikho and Brown Tangkhul.

Meanwhile, the Poumai Naga Tsii Doumai Me Delhi (PNTMD) has strongly condemned the group/person responsible for the death of two innocent brothers Hrinii Hubert s/o Arow & Muheni Martin s/o Daili.

In a statement, PNTMD said those responsible culprits should not go unpunished for their cruel deeds.
