Imphal, April 08: Taking serious note of the ban imposed by the UNLF on the upcoming 14th Lok Sabha polls as well as the diktats issued against the Congress and the BJP, a high level meeting of the officials of the Union Home Ministry was held today at New Delhi today to deliberate on the ways and means to counter the threats of the outfits, disclosed an official source.

The high level meeting which was attended by Chief Secretary AP Sharma, election nodal officer Y Joykumar and Union Home Ministry officials was convened today following Home Ministry's North East Joint Secretary Agarwal's visit to the State a few days back.

Informing that the State's representatives at the meeting had demanded additional security forces for the up coming polls, sources said that Chief Secretary AP Sharma had also intimated about the ban imposed on the upcoming polls by various proscribed outfits to the Election Commission of India.

Meanwhile, NCP president Sharad Pawar has also sent intimations to the Election Commission as well as the State Govt to tighten the security cover of Outer candidate Holkhomang Haokip following the ban imposed on his candidature by the UKLF.

Sources also said that necessary measures for providing additional security cover to all the candidates have been completed and efforts are also on for providing CRPF personnel to some of the candidates upon whom some of the UG groups have imposed a total ban.

It may be noted here that Central Govt had already provided 79 companies of Central forces for the polls.

Sources also informed that two more new polling stations have been included at Saitu and Churachandpur thereby bringing the total number of polling station in the Outer constituency to 1090.It further added that Ministry of Home Affairs had also given the permission for using five helicopters for the Outer elections.

35 companies of CRPF, 15 companies of BSF, 2000 IRB and MR personnel, 1800 civil police and 5000 armed personnel would be deployed for the Outer elections.
