MPP draws up list for Thoubal district

Imphal, January 07: For the six Assembly segments of Thoubal district which go to polls in the first phase on February 8, MPP has announced its candidates.

Out of 10 Assembly constituencies in Thoubal district, MPP has announced its candidates for six Assembly segments.

The regional party would field former Minister and MPP general secretary Laishram Jatra in 35 Khangabok A/C, M Binod in 39 Sugnu A/C, L Ashok Kumar in 38 Hiyanglam AC, ex-MLA Kshetri Irabot in 37 Kakching A/C, sitting MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang in 32 Wangkhem A/C and sitting MLA N Sovakiran in 33 Heirok A/C.The candidates for the remaining four Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal district would be announced before January 10, informed MPP president Dr L Chandramani while talking to The Sangai Express.

The four Assembly segments for which MPP candidates have not announced its candidates include Lilong, Thoubal, Wabgai and Wangjing.

For the Assembly Constituencies of Ukhrul and Senapati districts which go to polls in the first phase along with the six constituencies of Thoubal district, MPP would make further studies whether it would field candidates in these constituencies, said Dr Chandramani.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has accepted the merger of Federal Party of Manipur (FPM) and Democratic Revolutionary Peoples' Party (DrPP) with MPP.

In a letter sent to the MPP president on January 5, the Under Secretary of the Election Commission approved the merger of the two parties with MPP besides acknowledging all the new office bearers of MPP including its president Dr L Chandramani.
