Imphal, February 01: The underground Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (Oken) has announced that it would work to oppose the election MSCP candidate Th Bira Singh in Nambol Assembly constituency in the forthcoming elections.

A statement issued by the secretary publicity and research of the outfit said the KYKL had nothing to do with the election as such, and explained that the decision of the party to oppose Bira has been taken because he was the dummy of his younger brother, Th Chaoba, a declared enemy of the KYKL.

The statement maintained that Chaoba had worked against the KYKL and stood against the revolutionary movement in the state, and accused him of being a political criminal and political prostitute.

The outfit charged that Chaoba had in July 1993 shot dead a political rival, one Nameirakpam Kameshwar, from Leimapokpam in the name of the then UNLF (O), now the KYKL.

One Y Hemanta, a member of the outfit, had also been arrested in the aftermath and forced to confess that the killing was the work of the UNLF (O), it said.

The statement further accused Chaoba of being the kingpin of drug smuggling in the state and of having sucked the blood of the youth of the state over 25 years, and had been responsible for the criminalization of politics in Manipur.

The statement said that all the electioneering activities of Th Bira in Nambol A/c has been banned from February 2 onwards, including opening of election office, hoisting of flags, movement of flag bearing vehicles, and acting as election agents and polling agents.

The statement also said that it has identified 100 close supporters of Chaoba in the constituency and demanded that they should distance themselves from him by February 6 and stop all electioneering work in support of Th Bira.
