Imphal, July 31: The present situation in Manipur has been created for their own vested interest by the set of people who aspire to contest in the election, said spokesman of NCP, Manipur Pradesh N Radhakanta today.

Speaking at a party function held at the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai residence of NCPs women wing president L Ranita, Radhakanta expressed concern over the inconveniences caused to the people by some unscrupulous people in the name of ANSAM by imposing indefinite economic blockade along the National Highways for more than a month now.

In order to ameliorate the difficulties of the people, the State Government should hold talks with either ANSAM or the NSCN (I-M) so that an amicable solution can be brought about to lift the blockade at the earliest, he urged.

While observing that pamphlets are being distributed among the people in some parts of Nagaland like Kohima, Dimapur, etc which have potential of igniting communal flare ups, Radhakanta said that he would never like any one to read the contents of the pamphlets.

He also appealed to the people not to be taken by rumours and gossips and urged the Government to set up an information and publicity cell for broadcasting news every half an hour to counter the misinformation campaign being carried out.

Noting that it is the duty of the India Government to provide security along the National Highways so that the essential commodities can be brought in and made available to the people, Radhakanta said that the Manipur Government should exert pressure on the Centre to formulate a policy for protection of the National Highways.

He further said although NCP welcomed the recent visit of the BJP Parliamentary delegation to assess the prevailing situation in the State, the manner in which they officially announced that Chief Minister and Chief Secretary had disclosed the involvement of NSCN (I-M) in the ongoing ANSAM-sponsored blockade was condemnable as it was done purely to gain political mileage out of the deadlock.

It is an open secret as to who are behind the ongoing economic blockade, and even if the BJP is trying to gain political mileage out the issue, the Parliamentary delegation should not have dragged in the name of the Chief Secretary while making the announcement.
