Imphal, May 28 2010: Reacting to the news report in some section of the newspapers in the May 28 issue, in connection with the seizure of the Jeep of Minister Y Erabot at Noney, the PIB Defence Wing has categorically stated that no Assam Rifles personnel were approached for any assistance by the Minister's party.

There was also no prior intimation given to the Army or Assam Rifles of the Minister's visit to Noney, said PIB in a statement today.

If any assistance had been sought, it would have been promptly provided, asserted the statement.

Setting the record straight, PIB further said that the report of the first convoy of loaded trucks which reached Imphal from Jiribam on May 21 and 22 with minimum security is incorrect.

Detailed planning for the movement of the convoy was carried out in conjunction with the State Police, it said and added that a large number of CRPF and BSF personnel were deployed for road opening, while troops of 3 AR provided area domination and Quick Reaction Teams.

It was the joint effort of the security forces, who were out on the road without any rest for 48 hours, that ensured the safe passage of the goods laden trucks.
