Imphal, July 05 2010: Taking serious note of the volatile situation prevailing in the State in the aftermath of over 2-month long economic blockade, the Opposition BJP is all set to raise the issue in the ensuing Monsoon session of the Parliament.

Media affairs secretary of State BJP unit Laimayum Basanta Sharma said that BJP MPs would be raising a call attention motion over the Manipur issue in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Although All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has temporarily lifted the 68-day long total economic blockade on National Highways 39 and 53, on June 18, transporters in Manipur have refused to ply along the Imphal-Dimapur section of National Highway 39, which is the key supply route of the State while the condition of National Highway 53 is still in a pathetic condition.

This development has compounded the difficulties of the people even more with the price of essential commodities including fuel and foodstuff sky rocketing with no signs of coming down.

Basanta further informed that a Central BJP team led by its Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj would be coming to Manipur on a two-day visit on Thursday to take stock of the prevailing situation in the State.

Two other party leaders namely Deputy leader of Rajya Sabha SS Ahluwalia and MP Bijoya Chakravarty would be accompanying Sushma Swaraj.

''Our National party leaders will study the ground realities and the same would be highlighted in the Parliament', Basanta said, adding that after their arrival at Imphal Airport on Thursday afternoon, the BJP leaders will address a huge gathering of party workers at GM Hall.

In the evening, they will convene another meeting with leaders of civil organizations, members of the state intelligentsia and senior citizens to discuss the current situation gripping Manipur at the party's Imphal head office, Basanta informed.

Before wrapping up their sojourn, the leaders will address reporters in on Friday morning Basanta added.

It may be recalled here that during its National executive meeting held at Patna on June 12, BJP National president Nitin Gadkari had demanded the Centre to give a clear message that the Nation sympathizes with the people of Manipur through actions.
