Peaceful co-existence finds many takers

Imphal, June 04 2010: A State level convention held here today has resolved that all the communities in Manipur should work together to keep intact the unity and integrity of the State and to create a conducive environment for peaceful coexistence.

Organised under the aegis of All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council, the day-long convention on 'Peace and Harmony' held at Manipur Press Club further resolved that all the communities in Manipur should continue to live together in peace and harmony and work toward strengthening the existing bond of fraternity.

The convention, which was also attended by representatives of Kuki I, Kabui Mothers' Association, Tribal Youth Club (Imphal), Zeliangrong Union (Imphal Zone), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Imphal Zone), Zeliangrong Students' Union (Imphal Zone), Zeliangrong United Clubs' Association, Manipur (Imphal Valley), Eastern Rural Development Association (Imphal East) and Sadangsenba Maring Village, etc also resolved that the State and the Central Government should initiate talks with those responsible for imposing the economic blockade along NH-39 and NH-53 so as to bring about a mutual agreement.

The convention proceeded with N Binoy, RV Mingthing, Laishram Lalit and L Sadananda of Senior Citizens for the Society, Dr M Nara Singh of All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation and Sh Purnimashi, the president of the host organisation as presidium members.

Speaking at the occasion, RV Mingthing observed that North East India would be greatly acknowledged and respected in the eyes of the world if the people stand united as a single entity in whatever efforts taken up by any State or community.

Stating that narrow-mindedness is the biggest obstacle toward achieving peace in the region, he also called for doing away with parochial outlook.

Laishram Lalit said that the present situation in Manipur has raised the question of whether or not our present leaders have the ability to lead us on the path to development and peace.

L Sadananda pointed out that the feeling of oneness, understanding and mutual tolerance should be harboured.
