Charge-sheet likely in six weeks

Imphal, August 03 2010: The CBI investigating into the July 23, 2009 Khwairamband incident in which Rabina and Sanjit were killed besides injuring many others may submit the relevant charge-sheets to the Court within six weeks.

The CBI has submitted the progress report of the case before the double bench of Justice TNK Singh and Justice K Meruno of the Gauhati High Court.

Counsel KL John appearing on behalf of the CBI Director said that charge sheet may be submitted within six weeks.

Accepting that the case would be listed again after six weeks for further proceedings, the Court directed counsel KL John to give the information as to when the CBI would be submitting the charge sheet.



Lifeless body of Rabina-File


A petition was filed at Gauhati High Court in connection with the July 23 incident by Taratombi, mother of late Chungkham Sanjit.

The petition contended that Sanjit was killed by police commandos in cold blood.

Notably, a sequence of photographs corroborating Taratombi's contention was published by Delhi based Tehelka magazine on August 1 last year.

On July 9 this year, the High Court issued an order asking the CBI Director to furnish progress report of the case.

According to the progress furnished by the the CBI, more than 200 witnesses including street vendors, shop keepers, doctors, police officers, photographers, press and media persons and Imphal West commando personnel have been examined so far.

Documents numbering 150 including photographs/video clips related to the incident, soft and hard copies of the which appeared in the Tehelka issue of August 8, 2009 have been seized and forensically examined, it mentioned.
