Imphal, May 11 2010: Organisations, particularly youth clubs that are based along the Imphal-Jiribam route of National Highway 53 have begun canvassing for a unified approach to the State Government on development of the second lifeline of Manipur and launch related campaigns.

Addressing media persons at the Khamnam Bazar office of Cachar Road Athletic Union (CRAU) this afternoon, president of newly floated United Club NH-53, namely Th Shyama Khaba said the Club was formed with the representation of members of numerous organisations from Wahengbam Leikai upto Silchar under the objective of closely monitoring development works of the national highway.

He asserted that the Club would strive to ensure expeditious development of the highway as vehicular traffic along the Imphal-Dimapur NH-39 are frequently targeted by bandh-blockade supporters.

Moreover, ongoing economic blockade being imposed on the national highways in protest against the State Government's decision to go ahead with the Autonomous District Council elections coupled with uncertain environment prevailing as a consequence of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah's proposed visit to Manipur is enough evidence that development of Imphal-Jiribam route should be given priority, he expressed.

shyama Khaba also conveyed strong resentment that focus on NH-53 when a student body enforced prolong economic blockade on NH-39 some years back has waned.

Noting that attention is back on development of the Imphal-Jiribam route due to ongoing economic blockade and Muivah's visit, he informed that a public meeting would be convened at Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak on May 14 to deliberate on relevant measures for development of NH-53 .
