Centre blamed for crisis

New Delhi, May 18, 2010: Delhi civil bodies' representatives who were present during and post Mao gate incident of May 6 in connection with the proposed visit of Th Muivah to Manipur, convened a press conference in the capital today.

The civil society included Saheli, SAFHR, PUDR and NPMHR.

The representatives held the Centre Government represented by the Home Ministry responsible for the situation in Manipur today and therefore is the sole responsibility of the Centre to find a way out of the present impasse.

The representatives presented images of the incidents.

A video footage of the Manipur police's retaliation to the public rally taken out to welcome the arrival of the Naga leader at Mao gate was also presented before the media and others present.

Calling it a barbaric act, speakers blamed the Chief Minister of Manipur for what happened and its aftermath.

Representative informed the media that Home Secretary G.K Pillai, accompanied by R.S Pandey , Interlocutor of the Naga Peace talks, during his visit to assess the situation on May 12 in Nagaland in the presence of the Naga leaders and the Nagaland Chief Minister had confessed to not informing the CM of Manipur, but the Ministry of Home Affairs had intimated the itinerary of the NSCN leader Th Muivah to all the Chief Secretary of Manipur , Nagaland and West Bengal.
