State forces facing all the odds at Mao

Imphal, May 13 2010: State forces including police commandos and IRB, led by IGP (LO-III), V Zathang who have been stationed at Mao since May 2, to thwart any attempt by the NSCN (IM) to escort their leader Th Muivah to his birth place are today facing a lot of inconveniences, with no visible sign of replenishment in sight.

Other than the IGP, the SSP of Imphal West L Kailun, SP of Bishnupur K Jayenta and their men have been camping at Mao since May 2 to bar the entry of the NSCN (IM) leader, following the decision of the State Government to bar his proposed visit to his birth place.

Talking to The Sangai Express, a reliable source said that the State forces deployed at Mao are stretched to the limit, physically as well as psychologically.

With their ration running low, there is the grave prospect of the personnel facing starvation if the rations are not supplied soon.

Another extreme conveniences faced by the personnel is the lack of adequate clothings.

As things stand today, the personnel cannot take time off to wash their clothes and hence have to cope with whatever is available, whether they need a thorough cleansing or not.

Despite the severe inconveniences faced by the State forces at Mao, there is as yet no sign that the Government is working out a modality to replace the personnel with fresh forces from Imphal, said the source further.

Making things worse is the weather which has led to a number of personnel falling sick.

The State forces are virtually living in a state of an isolation camp, with routes cut off from Senapati side as well as from Nagaland side.

However the State forces have not lost any self confidence and their moral is as high as before, added the source.

The SP of Senapati, incidentally is stationed at the district headquarters.

Meanwhile, in another development two teams of the State forces, hitherto stationed at Mao Gate have left while two companies of the CRPF have reached there to replace them .

A source, while speaking to The Sangai Express said that two teams from 7th Manipur Rifles and 2nd MR have moved from Mao and are currently putting up at Lairouching, said the source.

On the other hand, two companies of the CRPF have also reached Mao today from Dimapur side.

One company of the CRPF had also reached Mao yesterday and are on the round the clock alert.

Though a number of Imphal bound vehicles coming from Nagaland were able to reach Senapati district headquarters, they could not proceed further due to the number of huge barricades put up along the National Highway-39 in protest against the decision of the State Govt to ban the entry of Th Muivah to Manipur.

Due to the ongoing economic blockade imposed by ANSAM since April 12 against the decision to hold the ADC election under the 3rd amendment of 2008 as well as the barricades put up along NH-39, vehicular movement along this route has stopped.
