Imphal, May 05 2010: Objecting the proposed visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah to Manipur, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has called a 48-hour general strike in protest against the approval given by the Government of India in this regard with effect from 6 pm tomorrow.

Moreover mass sit-in protests will be held all across the State from 6 am tomorrow, AMUCO said.

Announcing this during a press conference at its office here this evening, AMUCO president KT Rahaman informed that the decision to call the general strike has been adopted after a joint meeting of all the Clubs, Organisations and Meira Paibi bodies today.

The meeting took serious note of the proposed visit of Muivah to Manipur and the implication behind the approval given by the Government of India.

The joint meeting also decided that the State Government should make necessary security arrangement to bring back all the passengers and vehicles stranded along the National Highways as soon as possible, Rahaman informed.

He further said that the decision of the Government of India to allow Muivah to visit Manipur is against the aspiration of the people of Manipur as it is in furtherance of the policy to encourage bloodshed among the brethren.

So AMUCO strongly condemned the motive of the Government of India.

In order to avoid repetition of the June 18 incident, the Government of India should immediately intervene to stop Muivah from coming to Manipur, AMUCO president demanded.

While lauding the measures taken up by the Government of Manipur to prevent entry of Muivah, the AMUCO president, however, cautioned that in case the stand is reviewed at the pressure of the Government of India, then the State Government would be held responsible for any eventuality.

Calling upon the people to stay alert, AMUCO president also appealed to them not to believe or spread false rumours.
