Imphal, May 23 2010: Representatives of Manipur unit Trinamool Congress have decided to go to New Delhi to urge upon the party's chief Mamata Banerjee and central leaders to resolve the existing crisis of food shortage in Manipur.

"Because of the protracted economic blockade, the people are suffering untold misery.

While petrol is running almost dry, prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed and the ultimate sufferers are the common people who are living hand to mouth," the party's state unit president Kim Gangte said.

"Within the next few days we are leaving for the national capital to insist upon our national president Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram to bring about a permanent solution to the prolonged crisis besetting the state," also the former Lok Sabha MP said.

She said the state unit party leaders including her would request Mamata to visit Manipur and assess the whole situation and do the needful.

"To the central leaders we will keep our party's firm stance to safeguard Manipur's territorial integrity and maintain the age old peaceful co-existence among all communities living in the state," she added adding that the centre should combat any attempt to break Manipur.
