Imphal, July 10 2010: In what seems to be an effort to restore cordiality between Nagaland and Manipur, whose relationships have certainly soured in the wake of events following SPF Government's ban against the entry of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah, former Chief Minister of the neighbouring State SC Jamir arrived here today.

SC Jamir, a renown Congress politician who also held the dual charge of Governorship of Maharashtra and Goa, reached Imphal in an Indian Airlines flight from Dimapur at around 2 pm today and was soon engaged in a meeting with the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at Raj Bhavan.

Even though many Congress Ministers and MLAs, whom the Sangai Express contacted, denied prior knowledge or purpose of Jamir's visit, they speculated that the closely kept arrival might be to defuse tension between the States.

It is pertinent to add that relationships between the neighbouring States have worsened after the DAN Government of Nagaland backed the stand of some Naga organisations to protest SPF Government's decision to prevent Muivah's entry into manipur as well as in denunciation of police crackdown at Mao in April month.

Apart from condemnations by Manipur-based Naga organisations against the police crackdown, a nagaland student body denied passage to Manipur vehicles through Nagaland section of NH-39 .

Economic blockade was enforced by ANSAM to protest holding of elections to the Autnomous district Councils of the hill areas.
