Imphal, February 25: Taking serious note of the harassment and torture of innocent civilians by police commandos in the aftermath of the February 20 ambush, many social organisations have expressed serious concerned and condemned severely.

A statement issued by the New Chekon Women's Development Committee termed the conduct of commandos including arrest of Inaobi and harassment of family members of Bikash as uncalled for.

While condemning the atrocity of the State force it further observed that innocent civilians must not be victimised in the tussle between the armed groups.

The Panchayat Youth Development Association, Bishnupur questioned the conduct of commandos if it was striving to equalise the body count turning their weapons against the civilians.

It remarked that the current atrocities committed against the people is uglier than those meted out by the Burmese during the Seven Years' Desertation.

The association expressed strong resentment against the stoic silence maintained by CM O Ibobi.

Likewise, the New Generation Service Agency, Tronglaobi in a press statement noted that the extra judicial activities indulged by the commandos is a clear manifestation of their weakness while dealing with UG groups.

It also appealed to all concerned not to harass and arrest innocent civilians.

The pouring of their wrath to the helpless civilians after the death of OC Lokhon by police commandos is an act of state terrorism, said Women's Welfare Association in a press release.

It also asked them to display their strength at the right place against their clear opponent.

Taking strong exception of the reign of terror unleased by the State force in the aftermath of Thoubal ambush, the Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai Wom en Welfare Association remarked that taking vengeance of the death in the conflict between armed groups on the innocent civilians is an inhuman act condemnable by one and all.

It also reminded that valour and strength should be displayed against the enemy in the battlefield not against the helpless civilians.
