Imphal, May 18, 2010: The Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills and Kuki Students' Organisation, Sadar Hills and the Kangpokpi Town Committee have strongly condemned the abortive attempt to blast the Kangpokpi bridge on May 17 night.

One person got killed when an explosion occurred accidentally as suspected NSCN (IM) activists planned to blast the bridge, a joint statement issued by the kuki bodies quoted police sources as saying.

the bomb went off before it could be fixed to the bridge and claimed that the deceased is named Doni Monsang of Liwa Sarei in Chandel district, as mentioned in his identity card, the bodies maintained.

Describing attempt to destroy the bridge as a cowardly act, the joint statement also questioned why such a destructive act was not intended in their respective domination/area.

The aim to disturb and destroy National Highway is against human right as it is the lifeline of the people, it said while expressing remorse that the incident happened just 10 hours after a public interaction meeting with Kangpokpi Post authorities of the 36 Assam Rifles with regard to safety of the National Highway.

The statement also said Kuki Inpi and KSO Sadar Hills had appealed to GOC 57 Mountain Maj Gen DS Hooda to ensure safe passage and protection of NH-39. Highlighting that destroying public properties will not bring solution to any problem faced by the public at this juncture, Inpi president Chungkham Haokip and KSO general secretary Lamcha Chongloi called upon all UG groups to desist from any act that could hamper development and welfare programmes meant for the general public in general and people of Sadar Hills.

The Kangpokpi Town Committee in a statement also demanded a clarification from those involved in plotting the blast and also questioned the motives and intentions.

The Committee has also appealed to all not to carry out such kind of inhuman and sinister designs that can cause loss of human lives.
