Imphal, March 05: The alleged mass rape issue in Churachandpur district by underground cadres on January 16 is attracting more flaks from various quarters.

The latest condemnation poured out against the Lungthulien village rape incident of January 16 is from the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur.

On the sideline of condemnation today, ATSUM rediculed various Manipur based social organisations which have gone all out cries for M Naobi for alleged molestation and torture meted out by police commandos but none had raised a word for the Lungthulien village girls whose matter has a much bigger magnitude in the human rights violation scale.

However, ATSUM strongly condemned the action of Manipur police commandos for the molestation and torture of M Naobi.

ATSUM stated that the actions of Manipur police commandos amount to insulting the dignity and self respect of women of the state.

ATSUM further stated that it understood the sentiments of the people of the state when various social organisations reacted instantly by calling a lightning Manipur bandh although they were aware of the ongoing matriculation and higher secondary examinations, they could not help it as the inhuman and beastly actions of the Manipur police commandos were too much to tolerate for everyone when they committed such a crime on M Naobi.

"But how come that there has been mute maintenance of these social organisations when more than ten Hmar girls had been raped by underground cadres on the night of January 16 which had also been published in various newspapers including the leading national dailies", questioned the ATSUM.

The ATSUM is peeved on the stoic silence of the Imphal based newspapers on the Lungthulien rape incidents, said the tribal students' body.
