Over 100 taken nomination forms for ADC poll in Churchandpur

Imphal, April 29 2010: Amidst protest by various organizations against the holding of elections under the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Councils Act in the state, over 100 nomination forms have been taken away by the aspirant candidates for 24 constituencies in Churchandpur district on Thursday while the number of nomination forms being taken away by the intending candidates of Chandel Autonomous District Council (ADC) and Sadar Hills ADC were very less.

The district council constituencies of Sadar Hills, Chandel and Churchandpur will go to poll to elect 72 council members on May 26 .

In the case of Churchandpur ADC constituency, over 200 nomination forms have been taken away by the aspirant candidates during the last two days.

The exact figures of nomination being taken away by the intending candidates in the remaining two ADC constituencies could not be ascertained but sources put it as very few.

In the meant time, several frontal organizations and like minded bodies including some political parties have been voicing against the holding of elections under the 3rd amended Act, 2008 of Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council.

The All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) intensified its indifinite blockade protesting the government decision while the Manipur Tribal Joint Action Committee Against Election Under Unwanted District Council Act has called 3 days 'total bandh' beginning from April 30 midnight over the issue.
