Mass court arrest stir begins

Imphal, August 16 2009: A number of women protesters today courted arrest at several police stations in Imphal as part of the intensified agitations launched by Apunba Lup in connection with the 'fake encounter' at Khwairamband market on July 23 .

Around 100 women of Lamshang area stormed the Lamshang police station to court arrest around 1pm today.

The protesters marched to the Police Station from Lamshang bazar shouting slogans like, 'Punish the guilty police commandos,' 'Resign, CM,' 'Arrest us,' etc.

The women protesters were blocked by the police at Taothong Lamkhai.

The womenfolk demanded to the police to arrest them too.

However, the policemen replied that they could not do it.

Around half an hour later a confrontation between the policemen and the womenfolk, the police took around 60 of the protestors in a 407 Mini Tata to the police station.

At Patsoi, police have blocked women protestors of Patsoi area under the aegis of Nongchup Imphal Meira Paibee Apunba Lup, who moved towards the Patsoi Police Station to court arrest around 3pm today.

Heated altercation ensued between the protestors and the OC of Patsoi Police station.

Women protestors have also tried to storm the Lamphel Police Station today to court arrest.

The womenfolk carried banner reading, 'punish the guilty police commandos, and resign CM.' Around 150 metres away from the police station, police have stopped them.

The womenfolk shouted slogans demanding the resignation of CM from his post and punishment against the guilty police commandos.

Heingang Police Station was also stormed by protestors drawn from the area under the aegis of Awang Lam NIUCAMO today.

Meanwhile, sit-in-protest was also staged today at Khurai Lamlong Thongkhong and Uripok by womenfolk as a part of the agitation spearheaded by the Apunba Lup.
