DESAM warns to take action

Imphal, August 08: Taking grim note of civil society organisations undermining the recent people's mandate to exempt education from all sorts of bandh or strike calls, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) insisted it would take appropriate action against any organisation that defies the people's collective decision.

Speaking to newspersons at its head office this afternoon DESAM's president H Ashirjit recounted a recent public rally cum meeting that resolved to make educational institutions a free zone from all disruptive agitations.

Reflecting on the said resolution, DESAM expressed strong annoyance that an organisation like UCM did not honour the people's mandate when it proclaimed general strike on the Laishram Monika Devi issue.

Acknowledging that pulling out Beijing-bound L Monika Devi at the eleventh hour is unfortunate as well as suspicious, DESAM said along with civil society organisations it too would launch a series of agitation but at the opportune moment.

Ashirjit also opined that instead of making the student community suffer it would be more appreciable and purposeful if students leave their classroom and join sensitive issues at the right time and right place.
