Nomination papers for ADC poll to be accepted in Imphal too

Imphal, May 02 2010: In the meeting convened by the state election department to discuss on the elections to the Autonomous District Council, representatives of the political parties have urged the authority to open an election office for the second phase in Imphal.

In the meantime, the state election commission has ordered that returning officers of each district council constituencies to station one of the designated assistant ROs at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West at Lamphelpat for accepting nominations for any of the potential candidates in their respective Autonomous Districts, Sadar Hills, Chandel and Churachandpur.

The issued was issued following reports of possibility of intimidating some of the potential candidates against filling nominations at the offices of the respective Returning Offcers in pursuance of notification issued on April 26, secretary of the state election commission, Th Chitra stated.

The meeting participated by the representatives of the various political parties today discussed on various issues before the conduct of the elections to the ADCs in hill district.

It was held at the office of the state election commission at Lamphelpat.

In the meeting political parties demanded to do the election process for the second phase elections in three ADCs in Senapati, Ukhrul and Tamenglong in Imphal.

They also observed that in the filing of nominations, many problems are causing.

Due to pressure exerted on them, many individuals who are willing to contest the elections could not file their nomination papers.

The prevailing situation allowed continuing, there will have no meaning of democracy in the upcoming elections, they observed and urged the election authority to open separate cells in Imphal too.

At the concluding part of the meeting, secretary of the election department sought the corporation of the political parties in the smooth conduct of the elections.
