Imphal, May 24 2010: Effigy of Chief Minister, O Ibobi was burnt down at Tadubi play ground in Senapati district by the protestors participating in a rally organised by Mao Council on Monday.

Around 1000 people participated in the rally which kicked started from Tadubi Playground and marched upto Tadubi Oil Pump with the protest slogans registering government decision barring visit of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah in the state.

Reports received here said that the protest rally also strongly condemned the killing of two youths and injuring to several others in the May 6 Mao gate stand-off.

The effigy of the Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh was burnt down by the protestors at the concluding part of the rally by shouting anti-Ibobi and anti-government slogans.

They also demanded immediate review of the government decision and allow Muivah to enter into the state, the report added.

Police said the rally was dispersed later.

Sit-in protests against government decision were also staged at Mao Bazar in Senapati district and at Gandhi Chawk in Ukhrul district today.

The sit-in protest at Mao Bazar participated by around 150 womenfolk of the area was started at about 10 am and went on till 3 pm and organised by the Moa Mother Association, a report received here said.

Around 200 womenfolk took part in the sit-in protest at Gandhi Chawk in Ukhrul district which was also started around 10 am and went on till 3 pm.

Protestors are demanding revocation of the government decision regarding Muivah's entry into the state and allow him to visit his birthplace, reports said.
