Imphal, July 17: Denying the police claim of killing him in a shoot out with the combined force of Thoubal Police Commandos and personnel of 34 Assam Rifles at Thoubal Khunou on the night of July 11, the family members today asserted that slain Langam Anand of Yairipok Ningel was an innocent person eking out his livelihood through carpentry work.

Talking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, the family members claimed that Anand had been picked up by security personnel while filing oil to his vehicle at Yairipok Pechi on his return home from purchasing medicines for a sick person in the family at around 1 pm of July 10 .

Infuriated over the killing an innocent carpenter and the false claim of the police, the local people were preparing to agitate when local MLA Oken prevailed over them assuring that he would ensure whatever that could be done from the side of the Government.

Asthi Sanchay of the departed soul was solemnised yesterday, but so far the Government has not given any response, the family members lamented.
