FORSH holds public interaction on price rise

Imphal, July 05 2010: Forum for Social Harmony (FORSH) in its continued campaign against price hike in the state held a public interaction programme today.

The drive against price rise by the traders despite lifting economic blocking is due to absence of effective steps to check price rise by the concerned agencies the FORSH alleged in its public interaction campaign the issue of price rise held today at Ningthoukhong Bazar, Oinam Bazar, and Nambol Bazar on the Tidim road.

Member, Forum for Social Harmony (FORSH) M Nirmala reiterated that non reduction in price rise has been forcing people to face hardships.

She called upon people to join hands and protest with the objective rolling back the prices of the essentials commodities at the affordable level.

Nirmala further pointed out that the prices of essential commodities which were hiked during the 68 days economic blockade imposed by All Naga Students Federation (ANSAM) and United Naga Council (UNC), on the two national highways failed to come down despite lifting the blockade.

The quantity of goods brought from NH 53 has not made open to the public, she lamented adding that petroleum products are also not issued to public through authorized oil pumps but available in plenty in the grey market at higher rate.

She also blamed the government for the hardships and charged that the government has not done adequate arrangement for public to avail essential items under PDS terming it as forfeiting people's rights.

M Nirmala also called upon local clubs and women groups to investigate the illogical price rise, for which FORSH will extend cooperation and penalizing greedy traders and non performing government officials.

She also extended support on the decision of TDC decision not to ply on NH 39 until harassment and extortion are stop and losses incurred to them during the 68 days economic blockade are not adequately compensated.
