Imphal, March 03: Strongly condemning alleged physical assault and molestation of maibam Naobi Chanu several organisations demanding stringent punitive action against personnel of police commando involved in the criminal act also expressed solidarity to Naobi and her family members in the crisis hour.

Decrying arrest of Naobi without any valid reason and outraging her modesty while in police custody, Joint Development Committee, Khangabok Part-III called upon authority concerned not to take the matter lightly and initiate appropriate action against the human rights violators.

The bodies pledging unwavering support to any movement in connection with the condemnable incident also applauded the courage and determination exhibited by the girl in exposing misconduct of security force personnel.

Expressing shock and despair on naobi made to endure police cruelties, the Committee said manipuri society do not have any room for people who dishonour women's modesty and prestige while maintaining that even sisters and mothers of those commandos involved in the ghastly act should condemn the incident.

manipur State Committee of All India Democratic Women Association referring to Thoubal CJM ordering release of Naobi after police establishment failed to substantiate charges levelled against Naobi Chanu said Manipuri society would never tolerate atrocities committed against the women folk that too by 'our very own blood brothers'.

Pointing out that manipuri society had held the women member in high esteem, the Association demanding institution of a thorough investigation into the matter also informed of intimating the body's national level leaders to highlight the issue in the floor of the Parliament.

In an emotional outburst, Manipur State Council of All India Students' Federation castigated Thoubal police commandos of taking the law into their own hands which is akin to making mockery of the country's judicial system.

Observing that a handful of brute commando personnel had smeared the image of the entire police force, the student body called upon the DGP to dismiss those involved in the criminal act without any delay.

Contrary to high public expectation that State police force could be relied upon to safeguard civilian rights, the abuses against Naobi is a shame particularly in front of security force personnel deployed from other parts of the country, said AISF while desiring concerted probe to ensure such incident do not recur in future.

All kangleipak Students' Union pleading against any leniency upon the criminally inclined commando personnel and demanding payment of adequate compensation to the victim girl also asserted that the cM should bear moral responsibility.

Discuss the issue in the ongoing assembly session and process for releasing the compensation within ten days failing which it would be construed that O ibobi and the speaker are shirking from their duty of protecting the citizens, said the student organisation.

attributing indiscipline among the State forces particularly commando personnel to corruption infested system of governance AK-SU cautioned all the 60 legislators against undermining the matter as fallout of the incident might prove detrimental to their political aspirations.

Vociferously denouncing exhibition of animal instinct by the commando personnel Kanglei Apunba Ima Yaipha Lup conveyed its readiness to enforce any decision of social organisations to take Naobi's case to its logical end.
