TNL leader pins hope on parleys to reign peace

Imphal, June 30: Highlighting social and economic deprivation of Ukhrul district people Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) president Ramthing Hungyo desired that ongoing NSCN (IM) and Government of India�s peace talk expedite solution to the decades long Naga political problem.

Interacting with some newspersons at TNL office Ukhrul today, Ramthing said over seven year old parleys between the two parties must lead towards an honourable settlement of the vexed issue of which integration of Naga inhabited areas is an indispensable factor.

Expressing that the ceasefire agreement between the two sides must cover Naga areas, he observed that social rapport between the Nagas and the majority community (Meiteis) of Manipur could be strengthened only when either side understand and respect sentiments of one another.

Highlighting necessity and sincere approach of the Central Government to find an amicable solution, Ramthing attributed Nagas� pursuit for a political status and aspiration to overcome prolong exploitation - economically and socially - as important factor for entering into the peace talks to reach the cherished goal.

Replying to a query, he clarified that there is no tension between the security force operating in the district and NSCN (IM) activists while charging that pressure from the Manipur Government had caused the recent Assam Rifles-NSCN (IM) fissure at Marou village.

However, the matter had been solved by Naga NGOs and calm could be restored in time, he claimed.

He further contended that impact of indefinite economic blockade imposed by ANSAM is yet to be felt in the district and conveyed of informing oil pump and commercial establishment against hiking prices of essential commodities.
