MUTSU resolves to surrender certificates

Imphal, October 21 2008: The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has resolved to return all the certificates issued by Manipur University if their demands on the issue of tribal reservation at the University was not considered and solved by October 25, conveyed Michael Lunminthang, spokesperson of the students' body here on Tuesday.

Talking to NNN, members of the Manipur University Tribal Students' Union consisting of Humaliabou, vice president, John Pamei and Michael Lunminthang, spokespersons, alleged that since the inception of Manipur University, no tribal graduates of the university have been employed in the university nor given a chance.

In this regards the student leaders stated that there was no need of the certificates issued by the Manipur University and that they have resolved to return the certificates if their problems and demands on the issue of tribal reservation were not solved by October 25 .

''Tribal graduates from Manipur University who have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) are easily recruited into Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi , North Eastern Hills University (NEHU), Shillong and even Tripura University but why not in Manipur University?'', questioned the student representatives.
