Protest march on kidnapping, escalating cost

Imphal, July 18: In protest against escalating cost of rice and kidnapping of children, a protest march was taken out by womenfolk in some parts of Imphal area today.

After the protest march, a memorandum has also been submitted to the Chief Minister urging the Government for paying serious attention to this twice issue of price rise and kidnapping of innocent children.

Organised under the main aegis of All Manipur Nupi Marup, the protest march started from Keishampat Juncture here at around 11 am.

The protestors carried placards and festoons inscribed with slogans like 'Reduce the price of rice, ensure available of adequate rice to the people', 'Price of essential commodities and life saving drugs should be kept under control', 'Hike the wages of daily wage earners', ' Take up action against hoarders and black marketeers', 'Government should wake up to the issue of child kidnapping', 'Complete construction of Purana Bazar at the earliest' during the march .

Starting off from Keishampat Junction, the protestors were marching passing through Keishampat traffic point, Wahengbam Leikai and Samu Makhong of Kwairamband market where the police personnel stopped them leading to a confrontation.

Afterward, the police allowed a team of women protestors to go and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
