Imphal, October 14: Former Lok Sabha MP and human rights activist Kim Gangte has urged the State Government to immediately lift curfew being clamped in greater Imphal area saying further imposition of the curfew will only anger the people desirous of staging peaceful protests to highlight their grievances.

Briefing reporters at her Langol Games Village residence this afternoon, Kim said curfew cannot solve the current volatile situation and would only compound the suffering of the general public especially those striving to earn livelihood on a daily basis.

On the arrest and subsequent release of the NSCN (IM) members, the ex-MP observed that State Government should have dealt the matter in consonance with law of the land.

Nobody is above the law and those persons arrested for illegal arms possession should have been processed and tried according to relevant law, she added.

She also lamented Centre's reluctance at this particular juncture to declare clearly preservation of Manipur's territorial integrity while expressing apprehension of the Central government advocating divide and rule policy under the guise of ongoing peace talks between the Government of India (GoI) and NSCN (IM).

Merely addressing the problem of NSCN (IM) would bring an end to various other similar issues besetting the entire North East Region, she stated adding there are many other underground outfits capable enough to do 'anything' within their operational ambit.

Taking into account prevailing circumstances, Central govt should make strive to bring other underground organization to the negotiating table for political dialogue, Kim desired.
