Imphal, July 12: Even as Chief Minister O Ibobi issued strict instructions to Army authorities to sanitise NH-53 to open it to traffic this morning, Assam Rifles authorities today claimed that along with Border Roads it has been able to restore normal traffic along the said highway.

In a statement PIB Defence Wing said that the 60 km stretch from Nungba to Makru bridge will now be opened.

The task to clear this stretch was taken up four days back and Assam Rifles along with Border Roads were able to open this stretch.

Earlier in the day Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh reminded the Army authorities, whose personnel are currently engaged in sanitising the Imphal-Jiribam route, to finalise their job as soon as possible so that repairing/development of the highway can be expedited.

The instruction was conveyed to the Army authorities during an emergency meeting.

The Chief Secretary, DGP and top officials of the Army attended the meeting.
